About Me

Me in my room

I am a linguist and a computer scientist!I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Linguistics and a Master’s student in Computer Science, at the University of Hawai’i. Before UH, I obtained my Master’s degree in Chinese Linguistics from the University of Tokyo, and my Bachelor’s degree in Japanese from the National Taiwan University.

My research crosses two important aspects:
Linguistics:
My focus is on employing computational modeling and language acquisition methods to explore syntax and semantics issues. My dissertation investigates child language acquisition of Mandarin unaccusativity, proposing that language-specific environments significantly influence unaccusativity categories. This theory include both effects from the semantics of verbs and the language environment. Additionally, I have studied child language acquisition of the Voice system in Paiwan, an Austronesian language of Taiwan, and have conducted research into the historical syntax changes in Taiwanese and functional words in Tangut.
Computer Science:
I am working under Peter Y. Washington’s lab and have conducted a few studies in the classification of healthcare symptoms, such as dementia, ADHD, Autism. My approach utilizes language data and involves fine-tuning pre-trained models and evaluating large language models (LLMs).
